What do you need to know about Singapore?

Singapore is a city-state which is known for its exceptional multiculturalism, quality of life, and organization. What’s more, the health and educational systems, as well as the number of business owners and private entrepreneurs in the country, make it a central financial hub and give it an international reputation. The people of Singapore are considered pleasant and generous, and the crime rate, both violent and “white collar”, is extremely low.

So why choose Singapore as a preferred destination for starting businesses and relocation?

  1. Singapore is a city with the highest standard of living on the Asian continent. In addition, it is ranked third in the world as a country to work in.
  2. Singapore is one of the richest countries in the world.
  3. Singapore has the strongest passport in the world (as of 2019), offering free access, with no visa, to the largest number of countries.
  4. Singapore is a country with a strong economy and a high level of human resources development.
  5. The country’s central geographic location is one of the factors making it the perfect destination for doing business.
  6. A Singapore passport offers access to 189 countries around the world, including the US, Europe, Canada, China, and more.

Investment plan for foreign entrepreneurs – permanent residency

This program, initiated by the Singapore legislature, is intended for foreign investors seeking to move their residency to Singapore or open a business there. Foreign citizens can purchase the status of permanent residents by investing in registered companies or in investment funds in local companies.

Candidates whose applications are successful (after presenting all the required documents, including business experience, audited reports for their company for the preceding three years, average yearly turnover, etc.) will receive a residency visa. The investment must be made from the candidate’s personal bank account.

The application process usually takes no more than a year, assuming of course that the application documents are submitted and the obligatory payments are made on time. A residency visa valid for five years is then issued to the applicant and his close family. Note that the visa can be renewed for 3 or 5 more years, according to your choice.

Children of the applicant who are under age 21 can be included in the application – without, of course, the need to make any additional investment. They will also receive permanent residency. The remaining members of the extended family can get a long-term visa that is good for five years.

About two years after receiving a residency permit, you have the option to apply for Singapore citizenship. However, in this case you will be required to renounce your existing citizenship. This is because the Singapore legislature does not permit dual citizenship.
