Types of Press Cards in IsraelTypes of Press Cards in Israel

There are a few types of press cards in Israel issued by the GPO, and there are varying requirements for each type of press card.  This article addresses press cards for Israeli employees and for foreign press workers, particularly for those holding full-time positions and who intend to continue in their positions for at least a year.  We have another article addressing types of temporary or short-term press cards, which addresses temporary, part-time or visiting journalists, among others.

Types of Press Cards in Israel for Israeli Residents/Citizens

There are a few types of press cards in Israel for Israeli residents and citizens.  All of the these require that the person be 18 years old or older and be employed full time by a media outlet a year prior to and intend to continue a year from the application date.

The first press card is for a full-time journalist employed by the general media.

A local press card is for a journalist employed by local media.

A press technician card is for a full-time employee in an Israeli media outlet.

A media assistant card is a card for a media assistant in an Israeli media outlet.

A periodical press card is for a journalist employed by a periodical in Israel.

All of the above press cards are issued for one or two years.  It is important to note that these press cards do not automatically renew, thus it is important to re-submit applications as needed.

Types of Press Cards for Foreign Media Employees

There are also specific types of press cards in Israel that are provided to foreign media.  It is possible to apply for a press card, press technician card, and media assistant card for employees of foreign media.  Similar to what is listed above, the press card applicant must be 18 or older and cannot be an Israeli citizen or resident, they must be a full-time employee of the foreign media outlet, and this must be the applicant’s primary job.  Additionally, the applicant must have been employed in their position for a year prior to the application submission and must intend to continue in the position for the coming year.
