If you want to get an Israeli GPO card (Government Press Office card), then this article provides some helpful background information on the process.

Applying for an Israeli GPO Card

The Government Press Office (GPO) in Israel issues GPO cards.  You can find the application for an Israeli GPO card on the Israeli Government Press Office website. Media reporters, correspondents, and other media personnel can apply through the link above. In the event that this is your first time applying for an Israeli GPO card, then the applicant will be subject to a security review.

An Israeli GPO Card Security Review

The security review for an Israeli GPO card essentially examines whether the applicant is a security threat. Basically, this checks that the applicant never committed a crime in Israel, the applicant was never deported from the country, and that the applicant is not employed by a nation hostile to Israel.  While these are some of the things checked in the security review, the GPO can, in some cases, issue a work visa or GPO card to applicants who do not meet all the criteria above. The GPO is able to address these issues at its own discretion.

Criteria to Apply for an Israeli GPO Card

There are certain criteria for a media outlet to apply for a press pass for one of its staff members.  The media outlet must be operational for 2+ years, sell 10,000+ newspapers per issue (or have 100,000+ hits per day), and the outlet must have mostly news pieces (ie, not just opinion or propaganda pieces).  There are also criteria related to advertising, as advertising in the newspaper/outlet must not exceed 40% of its pages. Additionally, the outlet cannot solely rely on freelancer and external sources, as half of the content in the outlet must be produced by the outlet’s staff.
