3 Important Tips If Caught Speeding in Israel

Following are some tips for how to respond if you have been pulled over by a police officer in Israel on account of speeding.Tips If Caught Speeding in Israel

  1. As in every interaction with the police, try to discreetly record your conversation with the officer. If the officer does not follow proper protocol in any way, then you may be able to have the case against you dismissed.
  2. Remember that the police officer is supposed to write down everything you say in your interaction with them, precisely as you say it. Anything you say in your conversation with them can be used as evidence against you.
  3. Never admit to any wrongdoing during your interaction with the police. They will often begin their conversation with you by asking if you know why you have been pulled over, or what you were doing wrong. Do not say that you know you were doing something wrong.

The punishment for speeding up to 20 KMpH above the speed limit (or up to 25 KMpH above the speed limit in non-city roads) is a 250 NIS fine with no points against your record. However, more severe speeding violations carry significant penalties, including heavy fines, points against your record, and in some cases, the suspension of your license.

Depending on what device the police officer was using to ascertain that you were speeding, you may be able to argue that the evidence is inconclusive or invalid. If you have been accused of a speeding violation, we recommend that you hire an experienced traffic lawyer who may be able to reduce your punishment or even have your case dismissed.
